John Thomas Biggers, the American artist, was born in Gastonia, North Carolina in  1924. His mother, Cora Finger Biggers, was the daughter of Elizabeth Webber Finger by her first marriage. After the death of Cora’s father, Thomas Finger, Lizzie married George Whitworth.   Clifton Bruce Whitworth, my grandfather, was born in 1891 to that couple.

After the death of his father, John attended Lincoln Academy along with his Whitworth cousins. From there, he went on to Hampton Institute where his talent blossomed. By the early 1950’s, John was winning awards for his work along with starting the art department at Texas Southern Universiity in Houston. Over time, his work was acclaimed all over the United States .   Click anywhere on the Houston skyline for John’s web page.
