Of Sarah Brooks’ estimated thirty-one grandchildren, only the three males shown below are known to have surviving photographs. The first of Sarah’s grandchildren were Winnie’s oldest born between 1828 (Priscilla) and 1832 (Milford), though it remains unclear if Priscilla was actually Winnie’s daughter. The most significant event of that generation’s lives was, of course, the Civil War. They not only had to deal with the reality of that war around them, they had to cope with its difficult aftermath. They then saw their farming landscapes evolve from horse, plow and buggy to tractor, automobile, airplane, telephone and radio. They all worked hard and lived long, healthy and productive lives. As beneficiaries of their providence, we have much to be thankful for.
