Lucy A. Addison, Patron of Local School, Is Dead

Lucy A. Addison, veteran colored Roanoke school teacher, and for whom Lucy Addison High School was named, died yesterday morning in Washington, D. C., where she had made her home in recent years.

Coming here as a teacher in the public schools in 1886, she taught continuously until 1927, at which time she was retired by the school board.  In 1926, the present Lucy Addison High School was formally named after her as a tribute to her outstanding educational work

She returned here last summer to attend the 10th anniversary of the high school.  Speaking at the anniversary, D. E. McQuilkin, superintendent of city schools, referred to her as the one who made possible a higher type of education for the colored people in this community.

While in Roanoke, she was superintendent of the Sabbath school of the First Avenue Presbyterian church.

The funeral will be held Monday at 1 p. m. at the 15th Presbyterian Church in Washington.
